Where does the River Dart flow through?
The River Dart winds its way down from Dartmoor to the port of Dartmouth on the South Devon coast. Dartmoor, Dartmouth, Dartington, Dartmeet – the River Dart lends its name to many of the places it meanders through en route from the moors down to the sea.

Can you swim in the River Dart?
Not a river, but a quiet, remote beach at the mouth of the River Dart, just around the corner from Dartmouth Castle, where you (and your dog) can swim. If you come within an hour either side of high tide, it’s possible to swim with care through a rocky channel to the left of Sugary Cove and emerge in Castle Cove.

Carrying on there are deep pools ideal for swimming with small stone beaches and even trees that are growing money. Eventually the path leaves the woodland and a short walk through a sunny meadow brings you to another swimming area. The water here is deeper and still, ideal for a wild swim.
